My name is Sherry Schultz, and this is not my first blog. I am finding this a remarkably satisfying way to share my thoughts with the world — an opportunity I never had before. A bio on me would include things such as the fact that I have been married 50 plus years and have three grown sons and two grand children. Obviously, I am a senior citizen, but I trying to focus on the fact that all my years of experience in life have given me many things to say.
I began my work life as a teacher and then left the profession to raise my children. It was what I thought caring parents did in those days. Today I am not so sure I would follow that route, but it was what it was. As our oldest got ready to go to college, I realized I needed to go back to work. I studied counseling and became an addictions’ counselor in suburban Chicago — a job I loved until I retired several years ago.
Gradually, I became aware of the importance of having God in my life. I had always been a religious person, but I truly had little idea of what it meant to be spiritual. It’s been a long road, and it has not always been smooth and well paved, but it has led me to the place I hold today and I am content with it. Life is good. My eclectic interest in all the world’s religions has sculpted the way I look at life today.
Even before retirement, I began writing for a church email group, and I sent out what I called “Reflections for Friday” once a week for some time. When a physical problem forced me to stop, I had about 200 such passages. I also had a number of people from the group who had told me I should publish my material. The time finally came when I decided it was time to write 165 more passages. edit those I had written, and put them into a book. Thus “Talks with Our Creator” was born, and as you will note, many of the posts I am writing for this blog will come from that book, which is now available in both digital and regular formats.
